May 15, 2016 – Officials with Carmeuse Lime and Stone said they will be recalling most of the workers laid off at the company’s Maysville, Ken., facility this spring. In early March, Carmeuse laid off 76 employees and will be recalling 69 of those employees, based upon increased demand for its products, according to the company. Officials said they are hopeful this increased demand will continue for the foreseeable future. The company cited at the time of the lay-offs the shut-down of First Energy’s Bruce Mansfield power generation plant in Shippingsport, Pa., the major consumer of Carmeuse’s Maysville product. Carmeuse owns and operates about 30 facilities in the United States and Canada including limestone quarries, lime plants and underground limestone mines.
